The gala of the “2012 Woman of the Year” Awards. Fifteenth edition
On this superb evening of Fabruary 26 in the warn atmosphere of the Marriot Hotel in the Romanian Capital, there took place the fifteenth edition of the gala of the “Woman of the Year” Awards. The “2012 Woman of the Year” trophy for ten different fields of excellence went to 12 exceptional women, exceptional for what they do.
The organizers of the event were the “Avantaje” Magazine and AVON Cosmetics Romania, in partnership with the Marriot Hotel. The AVON Cosmetics Company will turn 127 this year and has been in Romania for 16 years. AVON is a company that empowers women, recognizes their value and encourages them constantly.
The AVON Company also does this via its two main social campaigns – the Crusade against Breast Cancer and the campaign against Domestic Violence., but also via the last campaign it launched in November 2012 – “the Campaign of the 1000 beds”.
Let us now see how the ceremony of giving the awards went. The amphytrion of this evening was Mrs Daniela Palade Teodorescu, the General Manager of the “Avantaje” Magazine who presented one by one the ten categories of awards, but also her co-presenters for each of the category who handed out the awards to the laureates.
The evening started with an artistic monent offered by the “Passe-partout” Theatre Company – the “Contraste” Show and then followed the ceremony of giving the awards. Here are the winners for each of the categories: (1) in the :”Social Implication and Responsibility “ category – actress Daniela Nane, for socially helping children; (2) for the “Defending and promoting of women’s rights category – . Beatrice Cioba, the President of the Monoparental Families’ Association; (3) at the “Promoting and defending children’s rights” category – Monica Gheorghiu, the President of the Gifted Education Center, the school of excellence for children with high abilities; (4) at the “Social Journalism” category – Carmen Avram, for her “Opening Night” Television show; (5) in the “Defending and Promoting family” category – Elena Miclea – President of the SOS Infertility Association, for the programs she does as part of this nongovernmental organization; (6) at the “defending and promoting the rights of the defavorized categories” – Mariuca Ivan, the president of the White Yellow Cross Foundation; (7) at the “Ambassador of the Romanian Art Abroad” category – actresses Cristina Flutur and Cosmina Stratan, winners of the Award for Best Supporting Actresses at Cannes for the movie “Behind the hills”, directed by Cristian Mungiu; (8) at the “Initiative for helping people” category there were given three prizes to three ladies from three different cities: Cristina David, ophthalmologist, from Suceava, for the “Health of Children’s sight” project made at the “Nova Optica” Private Clinic of Ophtalmology in Suceava; Camelia Proca, the president of ALEG Sibiu, the Association of Gender Freedom and Equality, non-governmental organization that is in partnership with Avon for the 1000 Beds Campaign and Filomena Salahoru, from the “Beethowen” School Center for children with hearing disabilities from Cariova; (9) at the “Science” category – Simona Timar Bisboaca from Oradea for her countless patents in the food industry; (10) the Award of the Sponsor, of AVON – Andreea Marin, the excelency diploma for her entire activity in the social field. And last but not least, the Award for advocacy projects and prevention of violence against women was offered to Oana Baluta, the president of the FIA Center from Bucharest.
Tonight was an evening where valuable people celebrated value, where the feminine force and its involvement in the civil society were recognized, thus bringing a tone of color to the world we live in.
